SEO: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) vs. Pay Per Click (PPC)
Organic SEO vs. Pay Per Click
Pay Per Click (PPC) represents when you pay a search engine for each visitor they send to your site. PPC listings are
usually marked as "Sponsored Listings" or Advertisements and generally appear at the top of side of the standards organic
listings.
Organic Search Engine Optimization is accomplished by optimizing the web pages within your website itself and
often by increasing or creating link popularity via links to your website which can drive your website to the top of the
search engines for the given search terms.
Organic Search Engine Optimization
Is Organic Search Engine Optimization cheap? That depends on your industry, state of your current website, and most importantly
what you want to accomplish (what terms do you desire top rankings for). For extremely competitive terms such as "real estate"
you should expect that Organic SEO will not be cheap. It is important to note that it is often easy and relatively cheap to achieve
top rankings for a handful of terms, especially if your business is primarily locally faced.
For these reasons Organic SEO is usually more cost effective that Pay Per Click (PPC). Since Organic SEO is almost always
done, at least in part, by creating Link Popularity you will find that Link Popularity is what endures over time and will
continue to work for you day after week after month after year.
One of the drawbacks to Organic SEO is that it can take time to get your website ranked at the top for given search terms.
Although often results can be achieved with a week or two under optimal conditions, it is not uncommon to wait for a month or
more to realize the full effects of the efforts of an industry professional.
Pay Per Click (PPC)
Immediate results is the primary benefit to Pay Per Click, the drawback is the cost. Top rankings can easily cost thousands
per month and often substantially more. Long term, unless you have an immediate and dire need, Organic SEO is more cost
effective and easier on the budget and the short and long term.
The major drawback to Pay Per Click is that when you stop paying, it stops working. This is not the case with Organic SEO.
This brings to mind the often used saying “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”.
Here is the translation that is applicable to this discussion: “Use Pay Per Click; and you will have a website visitor today. Use Organic SEO; and you will have website visitors for many days to come”—
